driveaxle bearing leak
 

Hi all, I'm new to the forum and I'm hoping to share my Camry experiences as well as gain from yours.

I own a 92 Camry LE wagon 4cyl auto with 244k on the clock.
I bought the car in 2002 with 129k on it, sold it in 2007 then was able to buy it back in 2009 with work needing done (my poor baby had been neglected)

My son wrecked his car so was using the Camry for over a year (you may say it has had "child abuse" :o)

Even after all that it still runs great with the only "major" problem being the distributor going out twice :eek: my boy would have run it into the ground :( if it hadn't broke down last time because of that problem:)

apart from needing new struts on the rear and some rear bushingings it leaks from the drivers side diff.
I changed the axle and seal (seal twice) and it still leaks.
The fixed bearing looks like it has been scored as does the axle-shaft where they meet.

The fixed bearing looks like it can be unbolted and replaced but I can find any info on line about this problem.:(
I just keep filling up the diff reservoir:D

I don't really want to have to replace the tranny for just one bearing...any ideas? :)

How is area of the drive shaft that rides on the diff seal, is this area damaged.

The seal can be damaged when installing the drive shaft by the locking ring if not carefully when driving the shaft back and forth into the housing to lock it in place.

If the diff bearing is too loose from wear the drive shaft can move around too much and cause the seal to leak.

Was careful with the install (2 seals) the driveshaft does have a wee bit of side to side play in it. ..if you listen well when you wiggle it you can hear the seal break so to speak
The seal area is burr or wear free, if i just had a fatter seal it would be fine...but is there such a thing :(

The seals are most likely a standard part (as opposed to a customer part), if so perhaps a bearing house could find something slightly different. There books and books listing seals. Seals have many designs and options.

If you still have the old seal use this as the example or obtain a new one.

If you have a local bearing house suggest talking to them as they know seals and what they can and can not do in your case.

have you try to look in other ebay or in any other classified store sites? they might have something like that :)
