Engine dies intermittently which i slow down

Have a 2011 Camry 4 cylinder. Have over 200,000 miles due to work i do. Have kept maintenance up faithfully (engine oil and transmission changes). Have never had a tune-up and it's been running without any problems until this weekend when it started to die on me intermittenly when i slowed down or come to a complete stop.

Weird this thing is that it doesn't happen all the time. Since Sunday afternoon to this morning (Monday), it hasn't died on me once.

A friend mechanic did quick diagnotics yesterday and suspects that it may have to do with the Throttle Box going bad contributed to by high mileage. He doesn't think it has anything to do with needing a tune-up.

Anyone else experience this?? Suggestions?? thanks!

The engine has an electric throttle which also control idle. The electric motor can fail but typically this results in no throttle response at all.

Suggest you clean the throttle body and plate using a cleaner safe for throttle bodies.

The throttle/engine computer "learns" idle. The relearning process can be reset by disconnecting the battery.

I agree with Joey P.
Also, you should do the tune up. This usually consists of spark plugs, air filter, and the like. You are running iridium plugs and they do wear down. You would be surprised what a new plug vs a 200K plug look like. I replaced mine at 120K and the difference in condition was very apparent. At the very least, a tune up will give you better performance and gas mileage.
