Exhaust Question

Exhaust Question
I'm new to the forum and I just bought a 2000 Toyota Camry for my son to drive to and from school. The car is a little loud and when stopping at a light you can smell the exhaust. I knew there was some type of exhaust issue when I purchased the car. I have attached a picture and the circled piece has exhaust coming from it and that is right under the engine. Is the only fix to replace the entire exhaust? If I don't replace how bad is this on the car? I'm trying to get a price estimate from repairpal but they don't have anything called exhaust replacement, what would you call this replacement?
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

That section is called the flex pipe and can start to leak.
A Toyota dealer only sells the complete exhaust system the flex pipe is welded to.
Flex pipes are commonly sold as "flex pipes". From the photo it may need to be cut out and welded in.
An exhaust shop can fix it. They will cut out the old flex section and weld in another.
Cost estimate $100-300.
