Gen 6 Camry owner

Just picked up a '03 Camry LE V6 3.0 and want to learn all I can about it, especially things that typically fail.

Review past posts at this site for earlier models. Visit sites like Toyotanation and Tundrasolutions.

The car is still too young to have significant issues with part failure. The 1MZ-FE is a very reliable engine.

Due keep up with the fluid inspections.

Oil and filter changes at the recommended mileage. If the trans uses long life Toyota WS fluid have it inspected for color. It is supposed to last 100K miles but there is a lot of discussion on this. If the trans does not use WS fluid change it every 30K miles.

The Toyota coolant is long life but suggest still changing it every 3 years and use distilled water.

Check power steering fluid for condition. This can be sucked out the reservoir and replaced. Do this a number of times between drives and it will be clean again.

Worn out fluid is the number one cause of trans and power steering issues.

Owners typcally change the water pump at the second belt change suggested at 180K.

Toyota has had issue with the auto trans such as harsh shifting, engine rpm flare between shifting. Updates to the shifting software seemed to help. If the car had an issue it should have been fixed by Toyota under warranty but never know.
