Hi-mileage oil?

Newbie here. Just bought a beautiful 2000 Camry. Has 177,000 miles, but runs perfect. What would be a good engine oil for it? Previous owner used a synthetic 5w-30. Ed

High mileage oil has chemicals that swell seals. Plus tends to be higher weight to help lower oil consumption.

Is the engine leaking oil from the seals or burning oil. If not it doesn't need it.

Synthetic is excellent oil and 5W-30 fine.

If the car has an auto trans, check the last time the fluid was changed. Periodic trans fluid changes, along with cleaning the pan and a new filter will greatly extend the trans life.

If the engine is a 4-cylinder the differential fluid should also be checked. Uses the same ATF fluid.
