Just sayin' Hi to fellow Camry Owners ...

Hi All,

About 10 years ago I inherited my Dad's 1984 Camry DLX 5 speed 2.0L.
Car was in great shape and had routine maintenance on a regular basis.

I ran it out of gas a few years back and couldn't get it started. Couldn't afford to put anything into it at the time so it sat for about 2 years.

Disgusted with myself for letting it sit for so long I recently started working to get her fully functional and restored to the best shape possible.

I started with clean fuel and a new fuel filter.
Air and Oil filters and Mobile1 synthetic 10W30
Complete tune up with new Cap, Rotor, Wires and Plugs.
Removed and thoroughly cleaned the throttle body and air chamber, EGR, cold start injector, pvc etc.
Yesterday I put in rebuilt fuel injectors and will putting the intake back on as soon as I get a new gasket.

The car has been tough to get started (seems flooded) and has little power going up hills.
In the next day or so I'll check out the cat and if there is a problem there will just gut it out until I can afford a new one.

I'm hopeful that between the fuel injectors, cleaning and cat she'll get her power back.

Been doing a lot of cleaning and small repairs as needed while waiting on parts. The car is in great shape for an 84 with virtually no rust and has never been in an accident or driven hard. Engine is very clean internally and no smoke or other indications of any problems other than the loss of power noted above.

UPDATE: Fuel Injectors really helped, as did the new o2 sensor and parts cleaning, tuneup etc.
She's running well, just not perfect yet. (Clogged Cat, I think, bad injectors may have done it in.)

It's actually been great fun doing what I can to restore this car, she's got a lot of good miles ahead (176800) so I'm glad to be getting her back in shape.

I look forward to hearing about your Camrys, they really are great reliable cars when taken care of.

Dave
