Camry Forums - Toyota Camry Forum - need help with toyota camry

my 1990 toyota camry v6 station wagon died on me like it was runing out of gas my gauge said it was ok but i added some and tried to start it but it wouldent start 1/2 hour later it started up and ran for ten second or so and then died on me again it seemed like a fuel problem to me so i changed the filter and still the same problem it seemed to get worse and not want to start at all so i checked for spark and really couldent find any so i opend the distributer and noticed all the wiring on the inside was cracked and bare and real messed up looking i thought for sure this was my problem so i got another distributer at a junk yard that looked much better and installed it but still nothing so then i figured maybe coil or ignitor so i went back to the junk yard and got the coil and ignitor from the same car and put it in mine and still it wont start it is turning over and sounds like the compresion is really good but no spark i pulled one of the plug wires and put a screw driver in the end and put it about 1/4 inch from the frame and turned it over to check for spark and nothing i did notice it spark a couple times when i was turning to the on position right before the starter comes on i am baffled if anyone can help please
