I joined today and the owner of a 1996 toyota camry. I believe some of the discussions are very interesting. My car has a few problems with it but they are your usual preventive maintenace issues and a few engine type problems.

Which should I have repaired first? The top engine motor mount must be replaced but it is also time to replace the timing belt. Comments please.

Thank You

Hello and welcome.

Those are two pretty crucial matters to decide upon if money is a factor. but as far as the engine mounts go, waiting to replace themwould lead to something major in the long run. but i want to ask you first, how many miles have you gotten on your car? and when was the last time the timing belt was replaced? This can give you a better idea of when to replace your timing belt, and to distinguish between the importance of getting new mounts first.

It has 160k miles and the last replacement for the timing belt was between last 60K-70K miles ago. I keep all of my receipts but just cant give you an exact number since the records are at home and I am at work.

Judging from the mileage on your car it is definately recommended to get the timing belt replaced. Timing belts are usually recommended to be replaced every 60k miles, so it seems like your car is due for a new belt.
