Non Camry owner looking for guidance
#11
I haven't bought it yet but the dealer is ok with me taking it to an auto upholstery shop (been in business for at least 40 yrs) and get an opinion on what can be done. If I decide to have them mod the seat I'll pay for that, but it wont obligate me to buy the car if they cant get it to my liking. Yeah, I'm willing to pay for seat mods to a car I might not buy. Thats how much I like the car.

Well I took it to the upholstery shop and they looked at it. They said that they could add about 1/2 inch of foam on top of the factory foam but they couldn't guarantee they could get it to my liking.
They agreed that the factory foam was very stiff. Just fyi: they quoted 3 hrs labor to disassemble, add foam and reassemble 1 seat @ $40/hr. Total cost would be around $150 per seat.
I decided to not pursue the 2017 with leather as it's too risky to buy something and hope you can make it work. I'd like to find a 2017 with cloth to see if they are any softer. So I tested a 2018 in both cloth (Camry LE) and in a cloth / leather combo (Camry SE) and both of those feel fine after an hour at the wheel.
Anybody have a 2017 with cloth? How does it feel?
