will assume its an automatic transmission

did you ever jump start the car or connect the cables to the wrong poles

re-set DIY is
undo the battery terminals wait a bit then reconnect the terminals
start and idle the car
turn off

if transmission is no better
you will need the engine and transmission fault codes
could be the tps

the engine check light should be on

i would get the fault codes read

if reset doesnt work you might be up for a refurbished ECM

the 2003 camry Xle toyota ECM and tranny control module comes up as a combined unit

re-set is
undo the battery terminals wait a bit then reconnect the terminals
start and idle the car
turn off

Disconnect battery for 5 minutes.

Start engine and let warm up.

Use light throttle until trans shifts properly.

I have had problems in the past with toyota whenever I change the battery, and after researching much, I found out that once the battery has been disconnected, my car has to go through about 20 drive cycles for the computer to re-adjust the oxygen to fuel mixture, which is why my car always acts up. What I do is drive for a very short distance (100 ft or so), stop, turn off the engine, re-start the engine and repeat the process for about ten drive cycles, which makes my car begin to drive like normal.
Hope this helps!
