Possible suspension issue on 97 Camry

My daughter's 97 Camry started making what I thought was a clunking noise in the left front wheel when braking at slow speeds. My first thought was the brake caliper. The caliper was replace and the problem persists. Yesterday my wife was leaving in the car and I stopped her and when she let off the brakes to leave I noticed the left front wheel moved forward. I stopped her again and asked her to repeat the braking and confirmed the wheel moves front to back. This problem is only evident at slow speeds. There is no vibration or noticeable steering problems when driving at normal speeds. Only the front to back movement when braking at slow speeds. Any help would be appreciated. Wayne

Can you clarify? The wheel rotated or moved forward without rotating?

I agree a bit confusing. It could be a axle failure or so...
