it has 55,00 miles on it (documented).... 1. I know about the oil comsumption issue..what would one look for upon inspection (pcv inspection?) 2. battery warrenty is 10 years or 12 years in California? 3. any other issue to you would suggest I look for appreciate your help....prepurchase inspection is at a Toyota dealer later today cost of car : $10,400 any comments at all welcome |
Not up to speed on the hybrid side. The engine has had issues with excess oil consumption and head gasket failure.
You can no about the oil consumption issue unless driving the car and noting consumption. There is a TSB on this and Toyota will at least in theory now try to fix the problem if the consumption is is over 1 quart per 1200 miles. The head gasket issue tends to result in a coolant leak around the intake manifold insulation. You might pay a third party to check out the car or get the extended warranty. If going with the warranty shop around as some Toyota dealers are much cheaper then others. The Toyotanation.com website has forums just for Camry hybrid. |
thanks for the response
turned out car had leaky water pump and "hidden" ecu code....about $350 in additional testing would be needed....although it was a low mileage car..think i'll pass...good point about oil consumption...would not know about this unless I bought the car and drove it for about 1500 miles... |
Best to pass if in doubt, there are lots of cars out there.
