Don't know on swapping cams.

You may have hit upon your problem in your comments about which dots to use on the cogs.

Try lining up the front cylinder head cams (LH head) referencing the one dot each cog has.

Line up the rear cylinder head cams (RH head) referencing the two dots each cog has. These dots on each cam will be machined one on top of the other.
