Taking possesion of my parents 1993 Camry V6 LE

Hello Camry owners,

Recently my mom has given me her 1993 Camry as she bought a brand new Nissan Maxima Midnight edition. Between her new car and my Dads 05 Mitsubishi Montero...they don't use the Camry anymore and recently has had issues with it and barely drive it. The Camry has been in our family since 1993 and it was the 1st car my mom bought with herself and it was her prized possession and kinda still is. It has some problems recently and my dad didn't want to spend the money to try to fix it and since I am the mechanic of the family and my mom not wanting to sell it to anyone...she decided to keep it in the family and give it to me.

As you can tell from my username I am more of a Mitsubishi guy and have owned a couple Eclipses, Mirages, a Evo 8 and several Galants. Currently in my stable are the Mitsubishis in my signature. I typically wouldn't drive or buy a Camry but my moms Camry I will since its been in the family and I have some great memories driving it when I 1st started driving years ago. I plan to fix the issues it has and somewhat restore it and have it as a alternating vehicle to drive between me and my wife to save a little bit on gas from our Monteros.

I plan to pick it up in the next couple weeks and start assessing the issues and go from there and I will post pics of it accordingly and maybe inquire about some of the issues it has especially if its Camry specific.

Congrats on your Camry acquisition. The 3rd generation of Camry was one of the best.

Thanks man. Its a good car and you're right..probably one of the best Camry's Toyota made as far as reliability and longevity. I am not a fan of the newer ones at all..probably the most recent generation I liked was 2014ish SE models.

The 4 cyl is easier to work on...the V6 is honest a PITA. I have done some repairs to the Camry in the past and I thoroughly didn't enjoy it, fortunately it doesn't give much issues.

Point taken!

Still easier then later model cars which have more complicated systems and require proprietary software to diagnose.

Most late model vehicles are a complicated to work on since many of the onboard systems are monitored by ECU or BCM. Makes it hard to even do anything "fun" as anything out of factory parameters will trigger some sort of failsafe mode which most of the time requires you do take it to the dealer to diagnose and fix. You can still "modify" your vehicles but almost requires a place or person that that specialty to bypass the vehicles ECU/BCM and that usually equates to paying $$$.

There isn't anything NEW I would want to drive and modify....there are only a few vehicles I would want that are NEW but that's it, basically just drive them as they are.

I will stick to my older cars for the fun....currently waiting a few more years till its legal to import a Evo 6 to the U.S.

Here are a couple pics of my vehicles.

Currently building this car and doing a DOHC headswap on the SOHC 4G64 (4G63s big brother as its a 2.4L instead of 2.0). Also converting it to AWD...hoping to make around 400hp on it, its going to be a street/road course car. If I get more serious down the road in road course racing then I will look into making more power and the associated upgrades.

1991 Galant VR4 1948/2000
Owned this since 2004...wanted one ever since I saw one for the 1st time back in 1998 and destroyed several V8s on the track. The grandfather of the Evo....WRC legend....and a Sleeper. I had my fun with this car when I was younger but now my goal is restore it and and become a weekend car.

1998 Montero Winter Package (Factory adjustable suspension, factory lockers, Super Select 4WD etc)
Wanted this truck for years...ever since I went to visit the Philippines. Rode in a Pajero (Montero in Asian market) up the mountains and didn't have any issues with 3rd world type roads. I love the look and I love the fact it was over engineered...i mean it has a 9.5" rear end factory!.
