Tire Pressure Monitoring

We recently bought an '09 Camry with Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPS). My personal feeling is TPS is unnecessary with non run-flat tires. I am also considering swapping out the wheels and would like to abandon the TPS. Is that possible without setting off trouble codes and/or lights?

Others have asked about turning off the system but have no clear answer, the dealer will not help as this is a safety issue.

The transmitters should be transferrable to new wheels.

Keep the transmitters as they are very expensive, if you sell the car you can reuse them

Some owners have come up with the idea of placing the transmitters inside a pressurized container placed in the trunk.

from my point of view the sensor are more helpful than u think as soon as the light turns on go to any local tire shop have them check for nails or low pressure also the spare tire can cause the light to turn on, i rather pay a couple of bucks and have the tire repaired before its too late and have to replace the tire do the math $100 sumtin for a new tire or $25 for a patch maybe less if plugged for $5
