Too much road noise
I test drive a 2004 Camry XLE. The road noise was so bad I couldn't hear the radio. Could it be something like the drivetrain or tires. Everything looked to be in good condition

What kind of noise?
A worn wheel bearing can cause a groan or roar. Try slightly moving the steering wheel one way and the other at speed. Determine if the noise increases or decreases as the chassis weight shifts from side to side. Try different road surfaces such as concrete and asphalt, both smooth and ruff. Concrete which has been worn by studded tires can make a LOT of noise! A chip seal road resurface job can cause noise. This is crushed gravel put over sprayed asphalt onto an existing road. Try the various surfaces and determine if the car ever quiets down. Tires can make noise and more as they wear out. |
