RAV4 Excessive Oil Consumption

Been loyal Toyota owner since 1987. Need to buy newer/new car and liked the RAV4 quite a bit. Drove one and was hooked. Checked the internet to find these RAV4's are noted for high oil consumption and various other serious problems. Even found where there are a couple of class action law suits against Toyota for oil consumption. Please reply if you have any personal experiences with the above issues. Right now, I feel that Toyota is now right up there with the Domestic car makers.

What year of RAV4 and what engine, V6 or 4-cylinder?

Our 2008 V6 RAV4 has about 160k miles and uses no oil to speak of.

The 2AZ-FE 4 cylinder is known to be prone to sludge build up in the rings, hence oil consumption.
Head bolts have also been known to back out and get stripped.
I would avoid the 2AZ-FE engine, even though that is the engine that I have in my Camry.
At about 3k miles I need to add a quart of oil, reasonable in my book for a high mileage car.
