toyota avensis

I was in Europe for 3 weeks this summer and over there they have a Toyota Avensis. I was wondering if anyone knows if theAvensis shares the same platform as a Camry. I rode in one and inside it's a lot different from a Camry.Also, it was a diesel, which was kinda cool.
