where is toyota going?

nissan has come out with the 370 as well as the new gtr.
mitsubishi..... the almighty evo
subaru..... the godly sti
mazda has the whole mazdaspeed line up as well as the rx8 and miata
honda... oh god.... s2k, civic si
toyota... the solora?????

i know that the economy is not in the best condition making car companies go near bank rupt and the real market right now is in economical cars. but that has not stopped other car companies to refrain producing sports cars all together. toyota has stopped the celica as well as the mr-s and if you consider any of the scion lineup to be in the sports category then i must say your sadly mistaken to say a car that looks like a toaster is a sports car. (no offense to any of those who might own one.) trd makes parts for the scion line up but i truly do not believe that they are honestly sports cars. this brings me to my next point. toyota has no sports car as of right now and the closest thing is the tc or the solora. there are concepts coming out. the new celica gt4, as well at the new supra, and the new corrola. im sure some of you have read that toyota is joining up with subaru to make the new corrola as well as the celica gt4. how do you guys feel about this? has toyota lost it's passion for making sports cars. (and dont bring f1 into this, they are not street legal cars.)

Given Toyota's declining profit would assume they will follow other auto companies and shed car lines that don't make profits or have substitutes (such as Avalon).

Toyota does not have a someone like Lutz at GM that thinks the Corvettes and Camaros will save the company.

Perhaps Toyota's new boss will take another route.

Toyota has shut down most of their factories in Japan for 10 days due to poor sales. They may not be thinkng about performance cars at this time.

There are still several in the 'works' but they've been put on the back burner and/or delayed.. At this point getting out the new and updated mainstream cars in one piece is their priority (HS250h, 2010 camry, etc) ..

Although I do believe if they had a nice sports car or at least a 'fun' car - it might draw customers into showrooms that might not otherwise be there
