2005 Camry right rear drum wont come off
I had a tire blow out, two nuts snapped off, custom rims came with car when I brought it, 12mm internal hex. I suspect they were overtorqued.
I loosened self adjuster star all the way, and the drum still wont come off, I have tried heat with propane torch where hub meets drum. Any ideas? And no parking brake isn't on. 2005 Camry right rear drum. |
this is a very common problem
it must be rusted on the hub centre good heat at the hub centre and banging around the out side is the usual way ---- are there holes with threads on the drum it self near the hub on that one other than the adjusting hole if so bolts can be used as a puller to get that drum away from the hub --- if a real problem (brakes must be in a bad way to have to do this ) you could undo the brake cylinder itself enough to move the brake shoes closer and if no better and drill out the brake shoe retaining pins from the back plate no holding star or hex grub screw in the drum on these --- you wont believe the things people tried and did or didnt work a dremmel hole in the back plate - 3 pound sledge remove the back plate and hub from suspension and drop from a height till drum pops off One fellow persisted for four hours on one side . |
I got it off using two M8 bolts. Removed all four bolts thru the hub to remove bearing except it wouldn't come off. Only the whole assembly including backing plate wants to come off.

well done
check the drum does not have a lip at its edge (machine both drums if it does) now that hub has to have new studs in (replace all five ) Attachment 3915 |
