Brake pressure gone
 

Hi, I have a 2000 Camry 2.2 lit petrol
Last night the pressure on the brake pedal went and the pedal was travelling all the way to the floor
Can anyone tell me what is the likely cause of this and any possible remedy

First check the level of the brake fluid inside the master brake reservoir.

The link below has a general description the reservoir and how the brake system works. The cap on the top of the reservoir rotates CCW to release it.

The reservoir is inside the engine compartment, drivers side mounted on the firewall. If the fluid is to low air may have gotten into the piston area. Then when the pedal is pushed air is compressed instead of brake fluid. If this is the case the brake system needs to be bleed of the air. Just adding more fluid is not going to work as the air needs to be bleed out.

Other causes of the pedal going to the floor is a fluid leak in the brake system typically at wheel location where the brake cylinders are. If the fluid is leaking out, pressure can not build up.

Or the master cylinder itself has failed and pumping of the brake pedal does not build up pressure.

All of the above repairs are done do-it-yourself but one needs to know what to do. Do you know someone who works on cars who can check the fluid and if needed bleed the brake system?

I've topped up the fluid and bled the brakes and it all seems fine now.

Keep on top of the fluid level, don't let it get too low or you will need to bleed again.
