Load capacity of 16" alloy wheels

Does any one know what the load carrying capacity of an OEM 16" Camry alloy wheel is? The particular wheel I want to know is Toyota Part #426112A080. It is a 7-spokes 16x6.5 JJ alloy wheel used in 2004-2005 Camry.

Any info will be helpful and much appreciated.

Rim load carrying capacities can be hard to find. Does the rim have the load capacity stamped on the back side?

Speculating the rim would be rated for the maximum axle load capacity plus 50%.

Take the gross weight of a fully equipped Camry with the heavier V6 engine then divide the weight distribution 60/40, front/rear wheels then divide front wheel weight by 2 to get max axle loading and add 50%.

Compare to the vehicle you want to use the the rims on.

Would speculate the rims are rated for 2000-2200 lbs based on aftermarket passenger car rim ratings.

The real life max gross weight a Camry may see is 3600-4200 lbs, thus a front axle load of 1260 lbs. The load rating of the Camry OEM tire was around 1477 lbs.

Add 50% to 1260 lbs and get approx 1900 lbs.

Thanks for your reply, toyomoho.

I want to use those 16" wheels on a 2004 Sienna van.

There are no markings on the wheel indicating the load rating. I have contacted Toyota, but they will not disclose the information to me, nor do they recommend me using those wheels on the Sienna. They told me to go to the dealer to buy a new set of alloy wheels instead.

The GVWR of the van is about 5689 lbs. I don't know what the weight distribution is for the Sienna. If it is 60/40 split, then each front wheel will be carrying approx. 1707 lbs. per my calculation. Do you think it will be safe to use these wheels?

Thanks for the help.

Personally would not have a problem IF the tire load rating were greater then the axle load. I doubt most people even consider wheel loading for passenger cars.

Read the posts at the Sienna site below as your issue has been brought up. The info is for 17 inch rims but still of value. Take note of wheel offset and clearance issues if any. Or post your own questions.

thinking about using 17" Camry/ES350 wheels

One other issue is if the Sienna had wheels larger then 16 inch the tire rotation per mile will increase and MPG will slightly decrease.
