Rear Disk Brakes
I plan on re-padding the rear disk brakes on my 2002 Camry. I used to be a ASE mechanic so I am no stranger to brakes jobs. My question is, to push the pistons back into the caliper, do I have to rotate them and in which direction? Your help would be greatly apprecieated, Tbone.

Never heard of being required to rotate the pistons on the car.
If the car has ABS, suggest venting the fluid out the bleeder as the piston is pushed back. |
Well Joey, I know for a fact that on many cars with rear disk brakes, you have to rotate the piston while pushing it back in or you will damage the parking brake mechanism.

The car (a Camry) has a separate shoe type parking brake system.
The rotor is a combo disk and drum design. You may need to back off the shoes to get the rotor off. The pistons have no other special powers beside pushing on the pads. |
What will be the major effect of changing rear break parts.. camry already have good system.

The poster wants to change the brake pads. Some models of Camry had rear disk brakes.

This car does have rear disk brakes and most of the ones I have been associated with, you have to turn the rotor while you are pressing the pistions back into the caliper because of the parking brake. But I guess since this car has seperate shoes for that purpose. I don't have to worry about that. I do not plan on removing the rotors to have them turned. I am just replacing the pads. Thanks again, Tbone.
