Roaring noise trans. at axle area?
 

I have a 2009 Camry LE, 4 cl.

After much elimination, I have found that the noise i hear while driving is coming from the bottom of the transmission where the axles come out.

Its a roaring noise that starts at about 35 of 40, it levels out at around 50 and blends with road noise after that. But it is slowly getting louder with time.

Any ideas on the possible issue would be good. To find the noise I raised the car onto jack stands with wheels removed and ran the car in drive so I could listen underneath. Thought it was a wheel bearing at first, or carriage bearing. The sound changes with the speed of the car, not the rpm.

The noise is the same one when car is on jacks as on road and coming from under where axles plug into the trans?

Any difference in noise when accelerating, decelerating, trans in neutral?

You checked the fluid level?

the noise is easier to hear from inside the car, but when under the car the only noise that i do hear is from the transmission area at the axles. While driving, the sound does not change with shifting gears (auto). the sound gets louder and faster with speed but there is some sound diff. when I let off the gas, and when slowing down I can hear it at slower speeds. Even at like 20. Its kind of like a loud tire, rrrrrrr, but no vibration, only a little in the gas pedal. the tires are only one year old and where balanced and rotated and had no change in the sound.

Afraid a repair shop will assume a bearing or something and it will cost me several visits. I could get the work done if I only knew what it was. I really have more experience with GM and Dodge models (90's and earlier)

I did notice that the coolant level is low. There is no overheating that I have noticed, but maybe some increase in temp.

I have exactly the same problem - did you ever get this resolved?
