Snow Tires in Lake Placid?

Hello. My daughter recently moved to Lake Placid, has a '93 Camry LE.

Folks there are telling her to get snow tires (she has all season tires there now).

Does anyone have experience with a Camry living in an area that gets a lot of snow like that?

Just wondering how critical it is to have them.
