Snow Tires on Steel Wheels

I have a 2009 LE and have 4 take-off Snows from my 06' that are the same size as the stock 215/60/16. My issue is my 09' has the TPMS and my take-off snows don't have the TPMS monitor.

I know what I want to do, which is to mount the tires as is and not worry about the TPMS warning light I know will come on. However I figured I would be prudent and ask around to see if I was the only one seeing this issue.

Thanks in advance.

The warning system triggers the light and nothing else happens. If you removed the tires the system would not be receiving any signals from the tire sensors and the warning light may come on. If so do not know of a way to turn it off.

Once you reinstall the original tires you may need to reset the tire computer, the owners many should have something on this. Should be a button to do this.

The system may be set up to need to read each sensor as unique. Using tires from another car having these sensors may not work unless the computer is programmed to read each sensor.

Toyomoho, Thanks for the advice, I suspect there would be no real impact if I were to do this other then the warning light.

Finally got to talk with a Senior Tech at my garage and she said there would not be an issue other then the TPMS warning light would be on. However the car can't be inspected like that under the new Fed Regs. So her advice was to either purchase additonal sensors, or have the car inspected before I did it.

Is this new federal inspection for the USA?

As I recall the sensors are not cheap (over $100 each). Thus as stated the better idea is to get the inspection before hand or reswap tires and reset the computer.

I am not sure if it is just the US? Any CA friends out there know?
