Default 01 Solara 2.2 Stalled Crank No Start

This post is a series of posts from other sites I just didn't want to retype everything so please forgive the timeline if it seems off.

01 camry 2.2 intermittent stalling issues.

Camry is stalling at random times.

Once at 65mph. Twice about 40 mph. Once at stoplight coming off highway.

But a few times I will start the car in a parking lot drive 15 to 50 feet and it stalls.

Upon stalling it won't start for a while 10 to 30 mins. Then it will run fine again.

1/31/2018 was first stall in several days.

Steps taken I have swapped around the horn, efi and open circuit relays. They are all the same.

I had codes pulled. 0401 flow insufficient and 1310. Coil packs are less than a year old.

I'm trying to determine if it's the fuel pump or egr or ignitor.

What sounds most likely.

Oh did have 5 seconds of surging getting on highway on 3 occasions.

Happened again this morning 2/1/18

OK just happened again. I got in drove to gas station no problem. Left there sat thru a light went to my small engine guy to get a blower turned off car again.

OK just got in started fine. Drove thru town waiting for 3 stop lights.

Got on beltline and no issues except for a momentary sputter ( no more than 2 seconds and mild) around 61mph 2050rpm pushed gas and accelerated to 70 mph.

Drove 16 minutes cross town on beltline exited and continued 4 minutes in town no issues

Turned key this morning couldn't hear any noise from pump.

Beat it and car fired.

Last night was the first failure to start cold since this started happening.

So if it was electrical and something needed to cool it had been parked for 5+ hours in the driveway

*Lol moved it 20 feet to unblock the driveway let it sit for an hour no start.

Put starter fluid in intake it fired.

OK new fuel pump that works. New fuel filter. Pulled egr and it's got good movement and the diaphragm is good.

I have spark. Relays tested fine but where the efi relay inserts one of the leads only read 2 volts instead of 12?

I get power to fuel pump to prime but not to run?

crank position sensor is below the timing belt cover towards the front of the engine right? it's getting one low voltage as well as whatever the sensor up by the egr (I forget the name of this one)

Is my computer shot? What step would you take next?

The pump will only run when the engine is cranking or running.

P1310 is no IGF signal to ECM for 4 consecutive IGT2 signals during engine cranking. EGT2 is for ign coil 2. If no signal the ECM turns of fuel injection.

IGT2 signal tells coil 2 to generate voltage for a spark.

Check wiring between ign coil 2 and ECM. No 2-3 cylinder.
Check ign coil 2.
Check ECM.

Do you have a wiring diagram?

Does black/yellow wire for the O2 sensor, IAC valve, VSV for EGR have 12V power when ign switch on?

P0401 is insufficient exhaust flow for EGR. Typically the EGR system is plugged with carbon or a bad VSV.

I will check those things tomorrow when my friend with a test light comes over.

At least I know where to start next.

Thank you.

OK so if no igf signal what are the odds it's the ecu versus ignitor vs wires?

OK I can't find an igniter on my solara.

The wires from the coil packs run straight to the main harness it seems and that runs to the ecm.

Am I missing something? Is my igniter integrated with my coil pack and not stand alone like other 2.2 camry?

Engine have two coils? Igniter is built into coil.

See link below:

http://testroete.com/car/Toyota/celi...nostics/31.pdf

Note, the info is for a four coil system but the basics are the same for two coils.

Yes each coil runs two cylinders. Thanks. Getting it checked tomorrow.

I'm mad and glad. The coil pack had only 28k miles on it.

If I would have known the coil caused fuel shutoff I would have changed it first instead of pump and filter.

I feel like an idiot.
