Default Starter will not engage

There is no power to the solenoid wire when key is turned to start and the instrument , radio, etc. Don't work. But if I put power to the starter solenoid the starter works. It seems like others have had the same issue. Some help would be appreciated.

For starter, check AM1 and AM2 fuses.

What else does not work?

I've checked fuses. So the things that do work are: headlights, door locks , hazard lights and warning lights. The things that don't work: wipers , radio gauges, Windows , turn signals and heater fan. And when the key is turned to the start position there is no power going to the starter solenoid. The starter works , I used a jumper to the solinoid. Engine even starts if ignition is in on and I use the jumper. I've seen others post the same problem but never see an answer. Any help is greatly appreciated.

These warning lights are the dash board warning lights?

The ign switch is several switches gained together. The switch doesn't just turn all the power on/off at the battery. Each switch controls a host of circuits.

The power into and out of the ign switches can run through fuses/relays before it powers a component. If a problem with a fuse/relay or wiring, it is possible when the ign switch is turned on, some components may not work with others do.

The electrical system starts by branching off from the positive battery cable terminal at the battery.

A large cable goes direct to the starter solenoid to power the solenoid and starter motor. That's why you can get the engine to crank over when you jump the solenoid control wire.

Another large cable goes to a fuse block then from here branches off. Some circuits go through the ign switch. The dash board warning lights receive power from the ign switch.

Others circuits are powered directly from the fuse block such as the headlights, hazards and door locks.

To further narrow down the issue check if the following works: tail lights, brake lights, cigarette lighter.

Check the 100A Alt fuse. Location is the engine compartment fuse/relay box containing containing host of relays and a few fuses.

Note this fuse is bolted to the fuse panel from behind. Don't try to pry it out or it will break. There should be a viewing window to view the fuse element.
