Power Steering System Fluid

I want to change the power steering fluid and braking fluids on my 05 Camry? How many parts or quarts do I need for both refills?

Don't know.

Get a couple of quarts of PS fluid. Use a oil suction removal tool draw out the old fluid and add new. This should be less then a quart. Drive car and repeat the procedure. Soon the fluid will be clear again.

For the brakes get small containers as once opened the fluid starts to absorb water. Depending on system when doing a flush may take a quart plus a pint.

DYI Change Fluids

Say Young Man:
Thanks for the advice. I have another question. I have 211,000 miles on the Camry, and it burns about 1/4 quart of oil after about 200 miles or so. What should I check as to why? I changed the PCV and head gasket. I do not see any leaks around the outside of the engine, so it must be inside the engine. Any advice will help before I take it to the shop for repairs. Did you check the engines compression?

However.

Is this a 4 cylinder engine (model 2AZFE)? If so, the 4 cylinder had an issue with the oil ring oil return holes in the piston plugging up causing excess oil consumption. There was an extended warranty on this issue but it appears your year is not covered.

Whole threads at various car sites such as this site and Toyotanation.com have been dedicated to this problem. There might even be a class action lawsuit out there. Search the internet under 2AZFE oil consumption.

05 Camry Engine Oil Consumption

Hi Super Moderator: Wow, you really are a big help with all the information. I will do an engine compression test and check the other sites for more information. It never crossed my mind to research this issue because I thought this was normal for a car with over 211,000 miles. Yes, the engine is 2.4 l 2362 CC L4 DOCHC 16 Valve. VIN: 4T!BE32K75U529936. Overall, it has been a great car and I hope to hold on to it for as long as possible.
Your answers are very clear and helpful for a guy that can only do minor car repairs.

Again many thanks,
