Replacing Broken Fuses

For those driving a fourth generation Toyota Camry who need to replace broken fuses, you’ll need to start by looking at the diagram on the inside cover of the panel to determine where that fuse is located. Start by going to your car’s interior and finding the ash tray in the lower left corner of the dashboard. Remove that cover to find the fuse box behind it.

To identify the fuse you’ll need to replace, go to your owner’s manual and find the section on fuses. You’ll need to go the index of that section. If you’ve lost power to an interior light, by looking at the index you might see that it’s a blue 15-amp fuse that needs to be replaced. You’ll also find out where it’s positioned when you open that panel. This interior light fuse is located in the PDM position, in this example.

Next, you’ll look at the inside of the fuse box cover to determine where PDM is located. That diagram will guide you on where to look in the fuse box. Keep in mind that it’s a blue, 15-amp fuse located in the PDM position, and check it against the diagram.

Then, you’ll go under the hood to the fuse panel. You can use a fuse puller or needle-nose pliers to remove that fuse. Looking at the center strip of the fuse, you’ll be able to see if the strip is broken and needs to be replaced. The light bulb itself may have blown out, needing to be replaced. It’s a good idea to start with the fuse and see if it’s still in working order.
