Getting HID's

Hi, I have 2007 Camry SE and I want to switch my day/night lights to HID... and maybe the fog too... I have no idea what to get/do so could someone please help me out? How much would this cost me and what should I get for the best outcome? Thanks a lot in advance! xD

RE: Getting HID's

Hello bzedx, getting HID Kit is a good idea. It costs around 300 bucks, I have an 07 Camry SE as well, I got mine at ebay, look for MTEC HID Kit for Camry its $280 plus $35 s/h, OR you can go to xenondepot.com and get the Mculloch HID Kit, its around $300 plus as well. We have H11 bulbs for headlights and fog lights. If you want to achieve that white with a hint of blue light go with 6000K, if you want to go totally blue go with 8000K, but if you want the best light output, go for 4500K or 5000K, keep in mind that the LOWER the K(kelvin) the GREATER the light output. I got 6000K. It is white light, and at certain angles its has a hint of blue but its not as bright as my friend's 4500K HID on his 07 Camry, but his is just plain white light. Eitherway even if you get the 8000K which lights totally blue, it will still have a greater ligh output than your factory halogen bulbs. Factory HID that comes with Lexus, Acura's and BMW have 4300K, it is bright with a hint of blue, but the blueish light came from the projector lens, NOT from the xenon bulbs, if you put 4500K in your 07 Camry, it will be just bright white light, I advise you to go with 6000K, its bright white light with that hint of blue just like the Lexus's and BMW's. Good luck!

RE: Getting HID's

How long and difficult was installation? Do you have to do any drilling to mount anything?

RE: Getting HID's

I'm going with 4300k just like my dad's LS. Once you go past 6000k you get the cool color but your light output drops. I did a side by side comparison the other night with a EVO,a BMW a Lexus and a Avalon LTD with a Legacy with a 6000k kit. And they blew away the Legacy for light, but the Legacy did look cool the blue hue in the lights. Hope that helps.:)

RE: Getting HID's

$300?! Man did you overpay! I got mine for $140 plus $20 for shipping. I checked with the guy I bought it from to see if he has more and if it's okay for me to post his email to those interested. The kit is pretty simple plug and play, it was just a pain finding room for the transformers for one of the headlights. I only did the low beam head lights at 8000K. They have a blue tint but they are bright as all hell and look so sick. I know one guy said that they aren't as bright as the 6000K or lower, but honestly who needs them any brighter than what I have? This morning there was no one on the highway coming to work (it was 5am) and my co-worker was about 2 miles ahead of me and could see me coming so yeah, they're plenty bright. So don't worry about that part, just get the color you like. You'll be okay with the brightness. Install takes about 3-4 hours but I had them installed. I'm not too familiar with that kinda stuff and didn't want to take the chance of screwing it up. It only cost me $75 but I bring a ton of business to the Car Shop I went to so they always hook me up.

Hope this helps!

Seth

thanks a lot everyone! and i think I will get 6000k's :D ahahaha! do you guys know how to switch the front and back signals lights!? I want to change it from orange or like white or blue too! xD

Seth937 12-26-2007 01:03 PM

RE: Getting HID's

I believe the front signals you have to take apart the headlight to change the bulb, but I'm not sure as I haven't taken them apart. As for the rear turn signals, I don't think I'd change those to white (people are smart and might confuse them for back up lights) and I believe it's illegal to have blue lights on the exterior of your car (so people don't think you are a cop). Personally I don't know if I'd change those signals at all. Maybe the look of them on the outside but when in use I think I'd keep them yellow as they are designed, just to avoid BS and what not. I could just see your luck, getting into an accident that's not your fault but because you had different colored signal lights the other driver was confused and now they win the case against you. No fun, there.

you make a very good point seth! i think i won't get it afterall =P btw seth, i emailed the guy about the headlights but he still hasn't emailed me back :( is there any other way of getting them?

Seth937 12-26-2007 06:34 PM

RE: Getting HID's

Hmmm....maybe because of the holiday he hasn't got to your email yet. I'll send him one as well to follow up for you.

And too bad about the signals, it would be cool to make them different, but I guess laws are there for a reason!

RE: Getting HID's

I have seen kits on Ebay for around $100 for HID kits and to be honest they do look like they are quality... But recently a friend of mine bought a kit for his camry... They look like total crap... The output is not even near as good as the MTEC's so beware about knock off's. Most of them are made in China or Taiwan and generally break easily and do not last longer... MTEC's or Muccullocs are good products and they back their products with great support.

I will absolutely be buying MTEC's when i get my kit this summer...

RE: Getting HID's

take it from me, I first had 8000K bulbs in my 07 Camry. the blue tint is nice and what not when you're looking at the car, but it doesn't really give u much brightness when driving. I recently put in 6000K bulbs and the visiibility is stunningly much brighter. I'm very happy with the change.

RE: Getting HID's

I am wondering about it too. How hard is it to put on? I just bought a new 08 camry and I have never altered my previous 1999 camry in anyway. I just want to get HID lights because I don't have the greatest night vision and thought the brighter lights would help me see better.

would I just buy the kit and install or do i have to buy other stuff? and would getting HID remove the manufacturer warranty?

Any help would be appreciate it. Thank you

RE: Getting HID's

Hey, in response to your question I just replaced my OEM for HID (6000K) looks great and and have gotten alot of compliments now everyone I know wants them. As far as simplicity of intallation about 30 minutes. direct plug and play, and have had no issuessinceinstallation. So to answer your question they ar relatively easy to install. Alot simpler than I had imagined.

RE: Getting HID's

I haven't taken the time to read each reply yet but I figured since this is a hot thread, and since I am going to eventually buy some I would ask. I have heard that HID's perform, or look better if they are in a projector, compaired to the stock head lamps. Is there even a difference I was wondering? I saw it on some forum somewhere so I wanted to know if they were right or completely stupid.
