change atf diy

I have a 2016 camry me. If I use a 1/4 completely clean tubely to remove atf from the wc fill site on the side of the transmission, place that in a container in a Styrofoam container with an identical container with the exactly same amount of new official toyota atf, then let them sit over night and replace what I took out with the exactly same volume/temperature fresh fluid and repeat procedure until fluid looks new. How could this not be a safe diy atf change ? The dealer wanted $600.00 to do this one time.

The dealer wanted $600 for a what? A drain and refill, or a complete trans fluid change plus a new filter?

Your process should work. The issue is the fluid volume changes with temp. If old and new fluid are at the same temp and volume, then one fluid just replaces the other.

There is a specific temp RANGE listed when checking the fluid, not ONE specific temperature. Thus there is some give and take.

You best route is to get an OBBII scanner which can access the trans temp sensor.

There is also a method where the ODBII connectors are jumped. See link below:

If your using the trans temp sensor to overfill then drain excess fluid based on temp, make sure the car is level.

Thank you for info. By taking the fluid out and replaced with new at exact same temp/volume hopefully will work. I know what seems like common sense can not be all that considered. I just cant understand why though. gb
