Klunking Noise

1989 Camry with 148k miles. This just started two days ago.

Klunking noise when foot on brakes and nearly stopped and when starting up. Occurs mostly when beginning to drive and comes from rear, likely right rear. Sometimes sound is metallic. Occasionally, there's a deep, single thump, then the noise stops. I looked at underside (without removing tire), but didn't see anything. Tire/wheel looks intact. No changes to/work on car recently. Thoughts? Thanks!

worn brake discs or rotor
rear shocks
ceased calliper
worn rear bushes
loose wheel nuts

if the noise was the front area .. it might be the CV joints

Thanks. A retaining pin for the rear brake shoe came off and the front brake shoe disintegrated. Just bought new brake shoes and spring/hardware kit. Have Haynes Manual, but last time I did rear brakes was 1991. Haven't found Youtube video for the 1989 Camry. Any tips, especially things not in Haynes?

lucky the rotors were not warped or damaged

to replace the pads normally

lower of the two smaller bolts on the calliper undo.. back off the top bolt .. swing up the half holding the pads
G clamp to compress the piston in
fit the new pads
drop back in place
fit the slide bolts
torque up

taking the whole calliper off is harder
two larger bolts to undo calliper and then try to line them up to tighten on with new discs

Clarification

This car has brake shoes and drums.
Tips for doing shoes/drums?
Not sure if drums are damaged; will check in AM

For rear drums

hit the drum with a rubber hammer

if the drum wont come off

you need to back of the ratchet adjuster of the shoes

to do the shoe holding pins

I hold the back of the pin at the backing plate
use pliers on the metal cap,,,, push in and twist till the head of the pin lines up with the metal cap groove (called cups in pic)
then release

hand brake cable adjuster is at the base of the handbrake arm

Thanks. Surprisingly, the job was easy, the hardest part getting a C-clip off. The brakes are quiet and work well, and brake pedal is pretty high. However, my parking brake won't work, so I'm starting a new thread
