Radiator Neck Adapter Doesn't Fit (Off-Camry)
I have a 1996 Tercel that Amazon says Stant adapter 12025 fits on the radiator neck such that I can pressure test the cooling system.
The adapter does not fit my radiator, but the corresponding 12024 fits the radiator cap perfectly. Specifically, the 12025 fits on the pressure tester, and sits, but does not thread tightly, on the radiator neck. I have the appropriate radiator cap and radiator neck adapters for my 1989 Camry (#12021 and 12027), and I know how to set up the adapters and pressure test Any thoughts as to what's wrong? |
Did the unit come with multiple o-rings to add/remove to get the right fit?
|
|
Does the "solid" unit have an internal spring to compensate for clearance differences and allow a tight seal?
If no spring, the addition/removal of rubber washers adjusts the seal. Read the customer comments about this product at your first Amazon link. |
Thanks.
The adapter is without springs and did not move. I understood everything in that review except: "...This new type you have to remove rubber washers one at a time until it fits the radiator without leaking..." By "rubber washers," do they mean in the center of the adapter? However, that same side that connects to the radiator neck has two notches without tapering on the notches or the other areas on that side. This is the silver version of the black version that I have: https://guideimg.alibaba.com/images/..._21105260.jpeg Finally, would this kit work, or is it missing the radiator neck adapter? |
The adapter you have appears to be for 35 x 10 mm deep cap. There is another adapter for a 35 x 16 mm deep cap.
See link: The link below lists Stant products: http://www.stant.com/files/3514/0979...r_Adapters.pdf |
Thanks. I now understand that #12025 is 35 x 10mm and that's why it won't fit.
I don't see the adapter that is 35mm ID and 16mm deep. What's the part number? |
|
Thanks. Amazon says that won't fit my car.
|
Read the info at the Stant site link:
http://www.stant.com/files/3514/0979...r_Adapters.pdf The 12024/12025 adapters are for a 31 mm x 10 mm cap/cooling system as used by Tercel. The Camry cap/cooling system is 16 mm x 35 mm. The 12021 adapter is stated to be for a 16 mm x 35 mm cap. The 12027 for the cooling system. |
Thanks.
12024 fits the radiator cap perfectly. However, 12025 did not fit my radiator neck. Should I try to remove one or two of the center rubber washers? |
Is this the Camry your trying to use the 12025 device on?
|
Thanks.
No. I'm only talking about my 1996 Tercel. My adapters for my Camry work fine. |
Try to find out why the adapter is loose. Then if the issue is needing more or less washers to adjust for this looseness.
|
Thanks.
It attaches, but does not connect when rotated. There are two notches on either side of the adapter, but they are square shaped, ie not curved to allow a tight fit. When I pull the plunger, air goes through gaps between the radiator neck and the adapter. |
The chrome unit is not a Stant product but a CTA Tool 7092. Some reviews at Amazon have the same of the same complaints as you do.
Get a Stant 12025. |
Thanks. I'm unsure whether that will fit my Tercel. Also, it looks like I would need to buy the $126.99 CTA tester kit.
|
It appears you don't have Stant 12025 but a CTA Tool 7092.
Are you using a CTA pressure kit or Stant pressure kit? Try removing the rubber washers one a time and determine if the unit now fits up snug to the radiator. Compare the CTA adapter with the Stant adapter that fits up to the other car. Determine if the CTA gripping arms are bent or otherwise defective and not allowing the unit to firmly mate. The only functional difference between the two units is one is made to grip a radiator port having a 10 mm depth and the other a 16 mm depth. |
Thanks.
I'm using the Stant kit and 12025. |
The chrome tool is not a Stant tool.
|
Thanks.
