Replacing exterior door handles on 1994 Camry
Hello, I'm new to this forum. My kids and nephew have 94 Camrys, and a family friend has a 95 Camry, all of which need exterior door handles replaced. I've done the front doors with no problems. but the rear doors are different in terms of getting to the bolts holding the doors handles in place. Any suggestions on how to remove and replace the rear door handes on these cars would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bob

Here is what the manual has:
Remove clip Disconnect 2 links from door lock and remove links Remove 3 screws (these are on the side of the door) If power lock, disconnect the connector Remove door lock through service hole Remove the 2 bolts that attach the door handle Remove handle |
Thanks Joey. I did think that the power door lock would have to be removed to access the bolts for the door handle. Just wanted to make sure before taking it out. What is the clip that you referred to as the first step? Thanks again, Bob

Having never done this job, can't state for sure.
On most door lock links an end clip keeps it attached to the an arm, etc. Typically the clip needs to be rotated to allow the link to be pulled out of the hole on the arm it connects to. In the manual it looks like the end of one link may slide over a rod attached to an arm, perhaps this is what this means. Keep an eye out for anything holding a link to the arm. The service hole may have a cover that needs to be removed. Manual states to apply an adhesive (Three Bond 1324) to the 3 screws (a tread locking adhesive), perhaps something like Loctite will work. Apply grease to the sliding surfaces of the door lock before reinstalling. |
door handles on 1994 Camry
Joey,
Got it done. In forty-five minutes, it was installed and the tools put away. Got a couple more to do now for my nephew. Thanks for your help, Bob |
