1995 v6 a/c idle control
where is the idle control for when the a/c kicks in and out?
i seem to have an inconsistant "miss" that has an audible "clic" everytime it misses/stumbles. it pretty much goes away if the a/c is off. tia |

The engine uses an Air Idle Control valve (IAC) located external of the throttle body. The valve bypasses air around the throttle plate to control idle speed.
The AC system is connected to the computer. When the AC compressor cycles on the computer adjusts the idle up, when the compressor turns off it lowers the RPM. The click may be the magnetic clutch on the AC compressor. With the AC on listen for the noise inside the engine room. Does the engine miss when the engine is idle ups without the AC on? |

no its not the a/c clutch, and i know what iac does, i just dont know where it is on this engine. doesnt look like any iac ive seem on other tb's.

The IAC valve is under the throttle body. It has a few coolant hoses running to it.

ok, noticably better, but still a slight intermitent miss now and then, even with the a/c off, any other ideas what would control idle or affect it that way, i could go a day or so fine, then hiccup, darn.

engine compartment, firewall area, each clik results in a miss, but like i said could go for days fine, then single/multiple cliks/misses, then fine ect. very random.
i hear simular cliks consistantly as revs come down if a rev the engine. but of course it doesnt miss as the revs are coming down. very faint but obvious cliks. i also need to buy a scanner, any ideas on a good "home mechanic" one that doesnt break the bank? a simple idea of my competancy to see what type might be advisable, is i have assembled complete engines(i send out for machine work), replaced almost every part on multiple cars, the only thing i have ever sent out have been automatic transmission(i remove and install them)but ive done manuals. and setting rear end gears(which ill try next time). not hesitant to do anything else. but i hate electrical/sensor problems, which i think this may be. i miss the old days when it seemed so much easier, lol. thanks for humoring me |
There is a circuit openning relay behind the glove box that controls the fuel pump, is the noise in this area?
The 1995 V6 is supposed to have ODBII but check for the plug near the steering column under the dash. |
