'90 5S-FE swap into '98 Camry
Hey my name is Tim. Ok...to make a long story short...I spun a rod in my camry but refuse to junk it. I was gonna put a 3S-GTE in it but that was too expensive of a project. So here's where I am now. I have the camry with the spun rod and I just purchased a '90 celica gt with the 5S-FE of that year. that car isn't running because it has a fried wiring harness, but i don't think that i need it to. I should be able to swap the long block into my car. my first question is whether that will work out. obviously the '90 5S-FE will bolt into my motor mounts, but will everything wire correctly. if not, will i need a new ecu, wiring harness, or both. i understand that i''m also gonna have to splice some wires. also, i figure i'm just gonna put the 3S-GTE into the celica shell afterwards and try to get my hands on the E153 V6 camry tranny. So yea...pray for that. What do you think about everything?

The may be to great of difference in years.
Toyota upgraded the ign system, checked the block design, etc. You might be able strip the 1990 engine to a short block and add back the head, etc from the 98. These engines are very cheap on the used market, suggest finding on closer to the one your are replacing. |
