99 camry oil light issue, need input quick

Guys, just joined the forum. I need some advice. I am buying a 99 camry le tomorrow for my 16 year old to drive. the car is in great shape and drives awesome. I noticed while at a stop sign, the oil light flickers. I asked the gentlemen about it and he said it was normal and even showed me a para in the owners manual that stated that it was normal and as long as it went out as soon as you accelerated some, it was fine. I just wanted a sanity check from some folks who know these cars better than I.

thanks

There is a paragraph in the owners manual on this, did you read it?

Off hand would not say this is normal for most Camry. The oil pressure light comes on at a very low oil pressure.

Some of these engines had issues with sludge build up, not the majority just enough to make one want to pull the valve cover and take a look for sludge.

Suggest before purchase to have a shop install a pressure gauge then determine just what the pressure is.

For the 4 cylinder idle oil pressure should be at least 4.3 psi at idle and at 3000 RPM should be between 36 and 71 psi. If going to a shop, have the remove the valve cover and look for sludge. This is a quick task to do.
