cam install help
 

Hi all. I'm new here, nice forum.I've searched and can't find the answer to my question.

I have a 93 V6 that blew a head gasket at 170K miles. Rear dirvers side cyl. was sucking coolant. I removed both heads and they're at the shop getting checked now. Does anyone have the cam installation procedure before I go to the library and look it up? Is that posted somewhere? Thanks,

I'm just getting back to this project. I looked at autozone and I have a Haynes manual. Haynes says to line up the double dots on the Intake and exhaust cam gears. When I do this, the distributer and timing belt sprockets are off 180 deg. Autozone isn't real clear on lining up the single dot or double dots. I'm assuming Haynes is wrong and it should be the single dots.
Anyone run into this when installing cams?
I don't know how I could have anything else out. #1 is at TDC.

If a 1MZ-FE engine then:

Rotate the crank to the No 1 cylinder at TDC. No 1 cylinder is on the rear bank and closest to the timing belt cover.

The double dots are used only to align the two cam gears with each other when installing in the head.

The single dot on the cam timing belt pulley is used when installing the belt. The dot on each pulley should be aligned with the mark on the timing belt cover.

After belt installation rotate the crank 2 times CW and check all marks to make sure they are still correct.
