1994 won't fire
I have a 94 with a 2.2 that just turned over 235000 miles. It has been running great even in sub zero temps but now will not fire. It died while I was driving and now will not fire at all. Any ideas? I have replaced the fuel filter to no avail.

Does the engine have ign spark?
|
I can see a spark in the plug wire when pulled and turning the ignition.
|
After trying to start the car, pull one of the plugs and see if it is wet with gas. Let's make sure the car is getting fuel.
|
Spark should be hot, as in white in color (not orange) and able to gap 1/2 inch of air.
|
So far, plugs and wires replaced, rotor button and distributer cap, fuel filter.
Still will not start. |
Do you know if it is getting fuel? You can try spraying a little starter fluid in there to see if it fires. Just be careful doing so. If it fires up, then you know you have a fuel problem.

The problem ended up being the timimg belt. It was not getting enough tension. I had the belt and water pump replaces and she is running great.

Thanks for the update, and I'm glad that you figured it out.

Repaired
Thanks for this post. I too had the exact same problem on a 2009. I took it to the dealer and they said the ABS Actuator needed to be replaced and wanted $2500 for the work...crazy...so I took it back home. Found this post and went to work. However, My issue was different. I found it to be in the hookup connection. I took it apart looked for different concerns, did not really see anything. I cleaned the connection points with alcohol and made sure all were straight. None of this really made a difference. So I took a mirror and placed it behind the steering wheel so I could see when the lights came on and off and began to apply pressure to different areas of the connection until I would see the abs and break light go off. I found with a slight bit of pressure between the connection and the unit the light would go off. I am sure a pro would take all this apart and repair it correctly, but I created a plug that fit between the unit and the connector that maintained the pressure and wedged it in. Everything now works great. I say why remove gnat with a hatchet?
