2003 Camry V6 - vacuum hoses at front of trans...

What are these two vacuum hoses going to a solenoid down between the trans pan and the subframe behind the radiator? One was disconnected and it was a bitch to get it back on due to limited space. No check engine light with it disconnected.

Can you post a photo of the solenoid in relation to the engine?

Follow the hoses from the solenoid to find where they go. One has to go to the item being powered by vacuum. Describe or take a photo of that item.

It would be very hard to get a pic because the solenoid is buried between the trans pan and the front cross member. The two hoses that go down there terminate at the air filter box and a little box mounted to the side.

You can see the twin hoses in this pic.

The hoses appear part of what Toyota calls the Air Intake Control System.

The purpose of the system is to vary the size of the intake air chamber. This to achieve a lower air intake noise and increase power. It’s a way to change the intake air cleaner box volume which effects intake noise and engine power.

The air cleaner has two air inlets. At low to mid range engine speed, the control operates the air intake control valve to close one side of the air cleaner inlet. At high-speed range the control operates the air intake control valve to open both side of the air cleaner inlet.

The computer self check system may only check of the solenoid is working electrically, not if the actually system is working.

Thank you for the detailed reply. I got the system reconnected and all is well. My intake noise was strange when I first got this car so maybe this might just rectify that. Thanks again.
