3rd gear troubles

I have a 1987 with a 5pd manual transmission. I can shift from 2nd to 3rd normally, but can not shift from 4th to 3rd unless the car is well under 20mph. Is this normal or what can the problem be. It shifts fine and the clutch feels great otherwise.

I had a similar problem with an 89 a while back the dealer told me it had some thing to do with syncros. and its was exspensive to fix. It last over 290k so i dont think you should be worried

Yea this seems like something Ill just have to deal with. I read about a clutch master cylinder?? Is this the small resevoir behind the brake master cylinder resevoir. I guess I need to put some fluid in there...

I have the same problem with my 2001 4 cyl camry. The best way to down shift, is to put it in second (without releasing the clutch...just hit the clutch, do 2, then immediately go to 3), then upshifting allows smooth shifting with no noise.
