95 Camry Oooo That smell...
Hello folks,
95 Camry LE V6 "my baby".. I've got the after rain storm odor coming through the interior venting. I've opened up the heater core box and the area is spotless, the hose is crystal clear. So I assume ( over the years ) debris from the fresh air intake has slowly formed a bit of a " sludge " ? down in there. I've removed, cleaned the vents, even attached a small hose to my shop vac and went down in there and tried to suck up the stuff ? Is there just this one tube as a drain or is there something else. I've been under the car and can't seem to see anything else besides the drain hose which is accessible by removing the kick panel and carpet. It would be where the passengers left foot would rest. I'm thinking of just pouring hot water in there but ? Is there a schematic of this ducting because I can't seem to find it anywhere, in any literature. And if it is available at the dealer, I think I would even buy that too. But I'm here asking you guys. I've tried the Lysol spray with the fresh air vent open and circulating, that's not really helping. It will go away after driving around with the fresh air open but winter is coming, to boot, I've got terrible allergies so this isn't helping either. The interior is spotlessly clean. No odor. Just when the blower is turned on or I start driving do I smell this musty odor. I was told it might be the ac condensor. Do I get to this by removing the glovebox, dash etc.. etc..? And is this one of those jobs where once you've opened it up, you loose all of the factory seals and have rotted foam all over. Well, sorry about the length here. Any info would sure be appreciated. A few years ago the dealer suggested the lysol, that was discouraging...as it did nothing. Thanks, Kevin |
lysol would be the best solution, are sure you follow the instruction properly?

Thank you for the follow-up answer. No, to be quite honest, I figured that opening the fresh air intake and spraying the lysol into both fresh air intake ducts would help.
After the Lysol smell goes away, and then another rain storm hits, the odor comes back. The floors are completely dry. It seems that this problem is in the ducting, the lower part of the fresh air intake ( below the outside of the windshield ) or it's built up on the ac condenser. I had the blower on low then high. Any further suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Kevin |
