97 Camry misfire

I have a 97 Camry with the 4 cyl. 2.2L about 120k miles, that misfires with codes P0300 random, and P0301, and P0304. This just occurred 2 days ago while driving.
I put new plugs and wires in about a year ago, or 10k miles ago. I saw in a different thread about rotten egg smell and think I might have smelled it when it happened, so wondering if a bad catalytic converter could be problem. It misfires in idle and drive with reduced performance. Possibly coils could be bad. I would appreciate help. I filled the gas tank and put in seafoam like product today. Thanks

Rotten egg smell can be the converter but would not replace it unless positive the converter was bad.

If the ign system uses 2 coils swap coil position. If the CEL comes on check if the codes are now P0302, P0304 following what is be a bad coil.

Thanks Very much Joey, you're awesome. I put a new coil in for cyl's 1+4 and it ran good but not 100% because I may have damaged the wires getting them off the coil. So I put in new wires and it runs great, (code went away). But the Coil for cyl's 2+3 isn't bolted to the block, I was having a difficult time trying to thread the bolt through the block and coil.

wow! congrats... just wanna know, how much did you spend on those coils?

Great job, thanks for posting back with the fix.

It was $67 with tax for one, the other is still good. It leaks oil, have any info where to start, or a thread on that? Thanks very much

Leakage areas have been covered in other posts.

Determine if the oil is engine or trans fluid.

Typical engine areas are:
Firewall side of valve cover gasket
From under the timing belt cover. If so check cam/crank and oil pump seals.
Sometimes the plug in the head where the distributor used to be leaks.

more codes

Not very long after the engine light went off, it came back on. Its been a couple of weeks and seems to be running well. The codes are po300 random, po301 cyl1, po304 cyl4, and po420 (bank1)-(catalyst efficiency below threshold). Could this mean bad catalytic converter, or O2 sensor? Thank You very much for your help.

P0420 typically means a bad converter. Although off chance it could be a bad sensor.

Given you had the rotten egg smell might be the converter, the smell is a sign of problems.

The P0300 is a code for random misfire on more then one cylinder.

The other codes can be the result of a host of issues beyond the ign system.

As you have no symptoms other then the CEL check out the converter issue first.

P0300 code on my '98 Camry with 130K miles was caused by bad transformer. The spark was shorting within the transformer probably due to bad insulation inside the transformer.
Over time the temperature cycling destroys the insulation property of potting epoxy.

I replaced the transformer and solved the problem.
