97 Camry O/D Lockup Shudder
I have a 1997 Camry with 205K. It's been great, but just recently, there is a bit of a clunk and shudder when it shifts into over drive. There is less of a clunk when it downshifts from O/D too, but the issue when going into O/D concerns me because it shakes the car as if I am driving over a bump in the road.
Is this something that will ruin the transmission quickly if I keep driving it this way? Can I check anything or fix it myself (sticking solenoid)? Is the only option to get the transmission rebuilt? Thanks for any advice to help me avoid the third option!! |
What condition is the trans fluid? If black or brown have all of the fluid changed. Should be clean and red or reddish in color.

Thank you for the advice - it may have saved me from rebuilding the transmission. |
