Default 97 Camry O/D Lockup Shudder

I have a 1997 Camry with 205K. It's been great, but just recently, there is a bit of a clunk and shudder when it shifts into over drive. There is less of a clunk when it downshifts from O/D too, but the issue when going into O/D concerns me because it shakes the car as if I am driving over a bump in the road.
Is this something that will ruin the transmission quickly if I keep driving it this way?
Can I check anything or fix it myself (sticking solenoid)?
Is the only option to get the transmission rebuilt?
Thanks for any advice to help me avoid the third option!!

What condition is the trans fluid? If black or brown have all of the fluid changed. Should be clean and red or reddish in color.

I had the fluid changed and transmission flushed - it shifts perfectly now!

Thank you for the advice - it may have saved me from rebuilding the transmission.
