High Idle when COLD

Have a 1990 2.5 V6, when cold the high idle is about 1700rpm. Is this normal????

Another question is; it shifts hard into reverse or drive when cold...otherwise it shifts OK....normal???

Thanks
Dan

I'm pretty sure that it's normal. I'm not familiar with that model year and what the ECU map calls for, but it's pretty likely that the ECU map calls for that high of an idle when the ambient air temp. is pretty low. What wastheoutside air temp. at the time?

I'm sure that someone else will chime in here with more certainty.

Yes, this is completely normal. It'sdue tothe higher idle and transmission linkages being cold. Everything is just more "sticky" or "rough" when it's cold outside.

RE: High Idle when COLD

My wife's 02 Camry V6 starts up at about the same rpm. My 07 Infinity G35 6MT at 2000 RPM. Her Camry even jolts as it shifts to D then let go, which is caused by the high RPM. Hope this eases your concern.
