Putting a '91 camry transmission in an '87 camry

So my transmission went out in my '87 camry 3 days after graduation(just my luck) anyways my friend told me that the years 87-91 camrys are the same generation so it wouldn't matter if i got a tranny from any of those years... is that true?

if the same generation it will be fit. but better use transmission parts for 87 camry, this way only for alternative if you can not find transmission for your 87 camry.

anyway welcome to the forum.

Check the drivers door for a sticker and trans type, something like A140E or A140L. The E is electronic controlled by the cars computer, the L is hydraulic controlled (does not require a computer).

Andry is right. I also think that they share the same generation. Eventually they will fit in your '87 camry but that doesn't mean that it will work perfectly for that '87 camry for it was really meant for a '91 etc.

As long as it is the same motor it will be the same tranny.
