Tumor on my air intake
Yea, I have a 4 cyl in my 94 camry and my air intake has a box hanging down in between the filter and the throttlebody. Reading another thread someone mentioned a resonator box and removing it. Is this also a resonator box? Would it make any difference to remove this box? I've never seen it on any other vehicle I've worked on and the aftermarket intakes I've seen havent had the port to fit this box. Any insight?

RE: Tumor on my air intake
yes, that is a resonator box and it will not change your performance in any way, if you remove it. Just make sure to cap off that hole.

RE: Tumor on my air intake
what is the best/proper way to cap the hole? Thanks

There may be another post on this same subject.
The box also prevents water from reaching the intake if for some reason it enters the system. |
RE: Tumor on my air intake
ive had mine off for years, never sealed the hole, never had an issue.

RE: Tumor on my air intake
Well i wouldnt recommend leaving it exposed...Its unfiltered dirty air getting past the filter into the intake.

RE: Tumor on my air intake
Yea I agree there, if you let that much get into your intake you might as well run it raw, no filter, you'll get just as much dirt and other residue in there to over time clog up your system. Im thinkin I'll even just keep the thing on with a plastic bag in between so the air doesnt go thru.
Im thinkin a custom intake later on, dual cone. What do you guys think? It kinda separates with a y joint so I can have 2 separate cones. Would that pose any problems? I already know it looks sweet, but will it help or hinder me? |
RE: Tumor on my air intake
Most likely, it's just a resonator box. Anyways, that resonator box thing can be a bit difficult if the vehicle isn't jacked up.
