Default Slow shifting to reverse?

I just got a 09 camry a month ago and yesterday i let my cousin borrowed it because she was learning to drive. while practicing, she got nervous and shifted from D to P without stepping on the brakes, which caused a loud noise. I didnt want anything to happen to my transmission so this morning i was shifting my gears from N to R and N to D back and forth. I noticed that when i shift from N to D, i can feel the gear shifting instantly. but from N to R, it took like 1 sec for the shifting to happen. Is this normal? or am i just being paranoid? since today is sunday, i couldn't contact my mechanic. Please any help would be appreciated.

The question would be if the shift delay was present before the D to P issue. If not you may have a problem.

The trans has a shift lock detent system to lock the trans. Not sure how this would effect reverse operation. In most Toyota trans the max shift delay is 1-1.5 seconds.
